Scrimshaw. Half lower jaw of Globicéphale engraved with a yo - Lot 81
Scrimshaw. Half lower jaw of Globicéphale engraved with a young elegant woman with her Cavalier King Charles. The half jaw is complete with its 10 teeth. Length 54 cm. Early 1800s. Attached is a certificate of identification dated 13 August 1975 issued by the Birmingham Museum. Note 1: Half jaws treated in scrimshaw are excessively rare. Unique object, moreover, by the quality of the pattern and the engraving. Object of great collection. Note 2: Specimen made in a lower half jaw of a cetacean (Cetacea) and more precisely of the family Delphinidae and presumably of the species known as the pre-Convention pilot whale (I/A). Specimen prior to 1 June 1947, in compliance with EC Rule 338/97 of 09/12/1996 art.2-W mc. For an exit from the EU, a CITES re-export will be necessary, this being the responsibility of the future buyer. This specimen is also included in the French Environmental Code and is exempt from the ban because of its dating.
