SCHRETTEGER Johan (1764-1843). Hexagonal-shaped equinoctial - Lot 125
SCHRETTEGER Johan (1764-1843). Hexagonal-shaped equinoctial sundial in brass called "universal". A dry-vessel compass is recessed in the centre of the plate. The ring-shaped hour dial is adjustable in inclination according to the latitude of the observation site. The degree of latitude is given by an arc, collapsible, graduated in degrees. The gnomon, a thin brass rod mounted on a pivot pin, is articulated so that it can be positioned at right angles to the hour dial on which it is mounted. "Plumb bob" mounted on a bracket to ensure the horizontality of the plate. Engraved on the back of the turntable "Johan Schrettegger in Augsburg". Germany late 18th century. 6.5 cm between opposite sides. Period instructions in German and French. Original case in used shape.
