ROYAL STATUS "Tu-tuo representing a standing male figure, ar - Lot 109
ROYAL STATUS "Tu-tuo representing a standing male figure, arms brought back in front of the torso, with almond-shaped eyes and a mouth widely slit revealing teeth. Portrait of the Fon Tchatchua enthroned around 1880. Once appointed, each Fon wanted to have one or more statues in his effigy executed. These sculptures were placed in the open air under the canopy of a ritual hut, which explains why they are badly deteriorated by bad weather. Eroded light wood. Missing: right hand and foot, left forearm and foot, sex. Numerous cracks. Cameroon, Bamileke Bangangté. Reproduced Cameroon "Arts and Cultures of the Peoples of the West", Museum of Ethnography Geneva 1980, page 79 fig. 52, catalogue no. 89 Top 122 cm on the back of the catalogue
