In the studio of Charles Lhuillier, a great classical draughtsman, Dufy studied alongside mile Othon Friesz and Georges Braque; there he acquired a great mastery of drawing that would never leave him. A tireless worker, he liked his works to give an impression of ease. In the square of the Nation, a very Parisian place, children are playing watched by nurses sitting on a bench. Meanwhile, a few people are walking towards the columns of the former Place du Trône, now Place de la Nation. It was on this square that the Foire du Trône was held, created in 957! The simplification of forms and pure colors are related to Fauvism, even if for Dufy it is only a step towards the discovery of his personal style.
