René-Yves CRESTON (1898-1964) - Lot 95
René-Yves CRESTON (1898-1964) Troménie, the banner bearers Polychrome glazed earthenware sculpture Manufacture Henriot Quimper, circa 1935 Titled "Troménie" on the base, monogrammed "RYC" and signed "Henriot Quimper" on the reverse. Similar model reproduced on page 213. This sculpture is also called "Petite Troménie", both because of the existence of another group of four bearers created by Creston in the same year and named "Grande Troménie"; shown next, but also in reference to the "Troménie". also in reference to the Troménie de Locronan, where a petite Troménie is held alternately every year and a grande Troménie every six years. Here, R. Y. Creston endeavours to recreate the immense effort made by the bearers to raise the heavy banner: a masterly achievement. AR SEIZ BREUR CENTENARY SALE 1923-2023
