René-Yves CRESTON (1898-1964) - Lot 101
René-Yves CRESTON (1898-1964) Project for a chest and two stools Ink and watercolor on paper, circa 1925 Titled "Coffre "Perinaïk" I", unsigned, top stamped Seiz Breur in red Tears at top, wear at edges Dim. 30.5 x 20 cm The chest is reminiscent of Oste furniture in its decorations, but features a large, almost African-style lock. The stools are very modern: on one, seen from above, the four legs support a narrow circular seat with a protruding shoulder; the center of the seat is hollowed out with a chamfered hexagon as a gripping hole; while on the other, seen from the side, R.Y. Creston offers a more integrated version with four flat, pointed legs. These pieces were apparently never produced. A very similar chest and stool can be found on the "Salle Commune" project painted in gouache by R.Y. Creston for the Creston for the 1925 exhibition. Provenance in the artist's family.
