Jules-Charles LE BOZEC (1898-1973) - Lot 145
Jules-Charles LE BOZEC (1898-1973) Meditation Large bust in white-glazed earthenware Manufacture HB Quimper, circa 1930 Titled on the base, signed underglaze on the shoulder and on the base "HB Quimper" and "Le Bozec". Small enamel chips on the base and small chip on the back of the headdress. Height 51 cm x Width 28 cm x Depth 32 cm This bust of a Breton woman wearing a Tregorroise headdress, a very airy "toukenn", is similar to Jorj Robin's Bigoudène accroupie published in 1927 by HB Quimper. These two Seiz Breur artists, who met in 1924 at the ENSBA in Paris, offer us a nuanced vision of the Breton woman. Bibliography: - Bernard-Jules Verlingue and Philippe Théallet, "Encyclopédie des céramiques de Quimper", ed. de la Reinette, T. V, 2007. Similar model reproduced on page 13.
