Superlatives are in short supply to describe this furniture by Jeanne Malivel, both in terms of its rarity and its design: the trapezoidal backrest is divided by two bars which, together with the uprights, form three triangles.
This interplay of full and empty is a real lesson in applied art. Note the angled front legs at the waist and the beveled
beveled at the bottom. Our model is that of the chairs made by Gaston Sébilleau and commissioned by Jeanne Malivel after her arrival in Vitré, in October 1925. It is reasonable to assume that they were part of a set of 6 chairs which, along with the sideboard, were not delivered until March 1927, a few months after Jeanne's death.
