The artist, involved in the Union Régionaliste Bretonne, was already working on a new vision of Breton art, with lighter forms influenced by Art Nouveau, a few years before the creation of the Seiz Breur, of which he is sometimes considered one of the predecessors. He died in the war in 1915 (this statue of Saint-Hervé is one of his last works). Saint-Hervé is a Breton saint, a blind hermit and long-fingered harp player.
