Languedoc (Gilles de) - Lot 13
Languedoc (Gilles de) Recueil historique de tout ce qui s'est trouvé de plus remarquable et de plus important touchant la ville et la communauté de Rennes. Handwritten copy produced in Rennes in the late 19th century (1896). 1 volume in-folio, later binding in the spirit of the 19th century, half tan basane with corners, spine ribbed with gilt fleurons and date, red morocco title page, combed edges made at the time of the previous binding, late 19th century. Good condition. Very clean body, 437 handwritten pages on ruled leaves. Remarkable, highly legible handwriting in black ink. This text is a copy of the one held by the Rennes library. It is an important work in which Mr. de Languedoc compiled, as an archivist, all the documents he was able to gather on Rennes. The manuscript covers the period 1400/1724. This copy belonged to the family of Mr. Louis de Villers. A handwritten note dated 1896 is glued to the flyleaf. "To Monsieur Louis de Villers, secretary of the Société archéologique d'Ille et Vilaine. Dear Colleague and friend. Please accept and keep this copy of the "Languedoc manuscript". You are young and probably have many years ahead of you; you will make the most of them, I'm sure, for I know your love of work; and when you consult for your local history research the interesting collection of the old clerk Languedoc, you will remember your devoted and affectionate colleague" signed Lucien Decombe, Rennes, August 15, 1896. Lucien Decombe's bookplate pasted opposite the note. Lucien Decombe was an archaeologist and collector from Rennes (1834-1905). A very rare and fine copy.
