Duclos Charles - Lot 35
Duclos Charles
Mémoires secrets sur le règne de Louis XIV, la régence, et le règne de Louis XV. Paris, chez Jules Gay, 1869. 6 volumes in-8°, period binding in red half-maroquin with corners, gilt heads, ribbed spines with gilt fillets, gilt author, title and tomaison, elegant gilt decoration in the caissons, unsigned binding in the purest style of the period. Very minor wear, not serious. 195 copies printed on Hollande, ex.142 untrimmed. Copy free of foxing. All proper names in the 6 volumes have been neatly underlined in red ink with a ruler, and at the top of the general table it is added in red ink: "the underlined names and numbers indicate the portraits and their place, the number in the margin designates the volume".
The numerous portraits are all mounted on tabs, and many have been added to enrich this copy. A handwritten table lists portraits not included in the book. A unique, very well-established copy, enriched with nearly 270 portraits.
