Almanach Royal for the year 1823. Paris: Guyot, 1823.
1 volume in-8°, contemporary binding in full red long-grained morocco, smooth spine decorated with gilt title and date, framed with gilt vine leaves and clusters on the boards, gilt garland on the edges and back covers, all edges gilt. Some wear and tear. Boards bear the coat of arms and gilt figure of Raymond de Seze, lawyer at the Bordeaux parliament. He was called to Paris and became one of Louis XVI's defenders. His plea, which lasted two hours, was made on December 26, 1792, a date that would later become the de Sèze family motto: December 26, 1792. It was Sèze who, modifying his peroration at Louis XVI's request, exclaimed: "I seek judges among you, and I see only accusers". A fine copy.
