Steinlen Théophile Alexandre - Lot 30
Steinlen Théophile Alexandre
Cats, pictures without words. Paris, Flammarion, S.D. (circa 1898).
1 volume in-folio 54 x 31 cm. Publisher's boards, muted gray half-percaline spine, plates illustrated by Steinlen in lithograph, the first in color, the second in sepia; 26 plates in black by Steinlen. Printed on rather mediocre and fragile paper, with a few small tears but not missing. The hinge of the first cover has been restored, with a strip of Japon paper partly detached. A larger 10 cm tear on plate 25 has been repaired with yellowing scotch tape. Wear and tear, rubbed corners, a few stains and a dampstain on the first plate in the upper right-hand corner. Uncommon work, always sought-after.
