Eugène BAUDIN (1853-1918) - Lot 110
Eugène BAUDIN (1853-1918) Eugène Baudin is an atypical figure in the history of French ceramics. Initially a porcelain worker in Vierzon, his political involvement during the Commune forced him into exile in England, where he worked at the Stoke-on-Trent factory. On his return to France, he was elected deputy for Cher in 1889. At the same time, his brother, future director of the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, was running a ceramics workshop in Paris: Eugène Baudin exhibited his creations at the 1889 Universal Exhibition, at which the Musée National des Arts et Métiers acquired several of his works. Around 1898, he moved to Saint-Briac-sur-Mer, where he opened a ceramics workshop until 1906. He took part in the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900, then in the one in Saint-Louis, USA, in 1904, before moving to Monaco to continue his work. He died in 1918 in Granges-sur-Aube, Marne.
