Francis RENAUD (1887-1973) - Lot 126
Francis RENAUD (1887-1973) Bust of a young woman from Goëlo Rare white enameled terracotta Manufacture Henriot Quimper, circa 1925 Signed Renaud on the front and Henriot Quimper stamp underglaze. Length 46 cm x Height 39.5 cm x Width 33 cm Significant firing crack, wear. Female figures marked Francis Renaud's career, notably La Douleur in 1922 and Vonnick in 1927. Gentleness and contemplation permeate his female representations: our bust, powerful and perfectly integrating the imposing headdress, is no exception. This piece also illustrates the artist's collaboration with the Henriot factory in preparation for the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels: the artist expressed the wish for a white tone, allowing the pink of the clay to shine through; however, this bust was more frequently produced in unglazed terracotta, which was probably less complex for the factory to produce. The full-length sculpture of this Goëlo woman adorns the park des grandes promenades in Saint-Brieuc.
