Sir Winston Churchill may not be a household name, but Paul Henri Spaak, a Belgian politician of lesser renown, was several times a minister in Belgian governments from 1936 to 1964, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister; during the war, he resisted Nazi Germany and became a member of the Belgian government in exile in London. In 1946, Paul-Henri Spaak was elected President of the first General Assembly of the United Nations in London. He was also Secretary General of NATO from 1957 to 1961. Thanks to his commitment to European integration, Paul-Henri Spaak is considered one of the "Fathers of Europe". The building housing the main hemicycle of the Secretariat General of the European Parliament in Brussels bears his name.
A handsome set, comprising 4 in-8° volumes bound in half-maroquin with corners and no foxing. Extremely rare.
