Méheut Mathurin - Lot 13
Méheut Mathurin
Study of the sea. Librairie centrale des beaux-arts, Paris, no date (1913).
2 folio volumes in publisher's boards, full green percaline, title and designs in white on boards and spines. Used rubbing with loss of white on spine designs, rubbed headpieces and corners, some dull.
The first volume contains 208 pages illustrated with reproductions by the artist, plus 3 leaves of table of contents and plates. Contains the 22 hors-texte color plates numbered 1 to 22, laminated on cardboard and mounted on tabs. Pronounced foxing on the false-title and title, then a very clean volume.
The second volume contains 194 pages plus 3 leaves of table of contents and plates. 28 hors-texte plates numbered 1 to 29, mounted on cardboard and mitered. As indicated by the publisher in-fine, "due to an error in the numbering of the plates, plate 6 does not exist, but the volume does contain the 28 plates announced". Pronounced foxing on the false-title and title, as well as on a few pages of text.
Collated work, complete with 50 color plates and numerous black and bistre reproductions in the text.
First edition of arguably Mathurin Méheut's most emblematic book, a superb color reproduction of his work during the two years he spent at the Roscoff biological station.
