CRESTON René-Yves (1898-1964) - Lot 180
CRESTON René-Yves (1898-1964) The Sardines Large oval fish service dish Manufacture Henriot Quimper, circa 1922 Signed with the monogram RYC and Henriot Quimper and titled Les Sardines on reverse. Dimensions 28.5 cm x 41.5 cm This fish service was created by Creston, then aged 24, on his return from a stay in Douarnenez, where his ethnographic vocation was probably born, but, more importantly, from which he drew synthetic, powerful works that accurately depict the life of sailors and the world of sardine fishing. Our dish, for example, illustrates the sorting of sardines on their return from fishing, prior to delivery to canneries.
