Claudio PARMIGGIANI (born in 1943) - Lot 230
Claudio PARMIGGIANI (born in 1943) Sculpture-volume Mixed media, plaster, newspapers, and paper in a white wooden frame Signed lower right 88 x 55 x 13 cm An Italian artist who began his career as part of the Arte Povera movement, Claudio Parmiggiani developed a conceptual and highly personal style; his works—which span painting, sculpture, and installation—invite reflection on the passage of time and memory. The motif of the ear, a recurring theme in his work, is a reference to his wife, who gradually lost her hearing. His works can now be found at the Centre Pompidou and in the prestigious Pinault Collection. He is also the creator of a contemporary sculpture that has stood on Place de Coëtquen in Rennes since 1993, nicknamed by locals “the fountain with the severed head”; a head carved from Carrara marble resting on a granite basin, located at the very spot where the city’s massive fire was brought under control in 1720.
