Molière: The Works of Molière, with an introduction on his l - Lot 38
Molière: The Works of Molière, with an introduction on his life and works by M. Sainte-Beuve, and vignettes by Tony Johannot. Paris: Paulin, 1835/1836. 2 substantial volumes in large 8vo, bound in half-brown long-grain morocco with cases edged in brown morocco. Later binding. Spine of the cover features faux raised bands with gilt decoration; the author’s name, volume number, date, and bookbinder’s name are gilt, along with a mosaic of green four-leaf clovers. Slight scuffing from use; spine sun-faded. (Bound by Huser). 2 volumes bound as originally published, with full margins and their attractive covers. A few scattered foxing spots; some repairs to the covers, particularly visible on the spine of Volume II. Copies from this period that have remained in their original binding are rare. A fine, well-preserved copy.
