Jeanne MALIVEL (1895-1926) Project for a Quimper earthenware service. Ink and crayon on paper, circa 1924/1925. Portfolio comprising 12 studies for a polychrome-glazed earthenware service. The dust jacket is titled: "Ar Seiz Breur - service faïence - décor mauve et jaune" and stamped by Les Seiz Breur in June 1924. Each sheet numbered in red at the top from n° 59 to n° 70, signed with the monogram "J.M" in ink. Leaves n°61 and n°63 bear a red MALIVEL stamp in a cartouche. Small folds, stains and scattered foxing. Size of each sheet: 27 cm x 21 cm Portfolio: 31 cm x 21.5 cm Provenance: former René-Yves Creston collection. This portfolio of 12 highly detailed studies for a mauve and yellow earthenware service was, in the mind of its creator, intended to be offered to Henriot earthenware manufacturers for publication. This document, which goes beyond the status of a project or study to become a genuine work of art, reveals the creative genius of Jeanne Malivel, a pioneer of design in Brittany.
