Gineste (Raoul) - Minartz (Tony) *Soirs de Paris*. Paris, pr - Lot 73
Gineste (Raoul) - Minartz (Tony) *Soirs de Paris*. Paris, printed for Henri Beraldi, 1903. 1 volume, in-8°, bound in lemon-colored half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets featuring the author’s name and title in gilt, gilt headband. Untrimmed, covers preserved without the spine (Lemardeley binding). Normal wear and scuffing on the fore-edges and in places on the spine. A work printed in a limited edition of only 138 copies on Marais vellum, the sole paper used. Copy no. 2, printed especially for Madame Henri Beraldi, bearing her bookplate. A work describing Parisian nightlife, illustrated in black by Minartz and engraved by Paillard. A lovely vignette on the colophon depicting the author, publisher, illustrator, and engraver. Henri Beraldi (1849–1931)—his library was ranked among the four most famous libraries in the 1920s. In 1934–1935, Beraldi’s books went up for auction and were sold off over the course of thirteen days. As both an author and publisher, he published reference books that are still highly regarded today. A clean copy, free of foxing.
